Did you know? Newton Nissan South hosts a car giveaway every year?
Well, it’s TRUE.
One lucky Middle TN high school student will drive away with a Nissan Versa this summer! For the fourth year in a row, we’ll be giving away a brand-new car for absolutely FREE. You read that right–no taxes or hidden fees. FREE! Why? Because we want to give back to our community, and one of the ways we can do that is by rewarding our hard-working students with a car giveaway!
Drop off your report card at our Shelbyville location by June 10th. We’ll also need a copy of your (or your parent’s) driver’s license.
Come to the big event on June 14th, at 6 PM!
How many entries can I have?
Students will receive an entry for every “A” on their report card! The more A’s, the more entries into drawing! Believe us…the odds will be in your favor! It is worth entering! On the night of the drawing, we will have food and drinks for everyone. We look forward to seeing you at the car giveaway!
Here are a few FAQs:
Question: I’m taking a class that only gives me a pass/fail grade, will a “P” for “Pass” count as an entry?
No. Only grades that are considered an “A” on the report card will be eligible.
Question: I am taking a college class during high school, will that class be eligible for an entry if I get an “A” in it?
That’s tricky. An “A” from a college/AP class will count only if the class is listed on the high school’s report card (not on a college report card).
Question: I am a college student. Can I enter the car giveaway?
No. The giveaway is currently only open to high school students in a Tennessee high school.
Question: Can I use my Driver’s Permit to enter the car giveaway?
Yes. You can now use your driver’s permit, driver’s license, or student ID to enter, as long as your parent or legal guardian has a valid driver’s license.
Question: My school does not give out report cards. Can I print off my grades from the school’s online portal?
We cannot accept copies or print offs of report cards, unless they are verifed. To verify your grades, go to the Welcome Desk at Newton Nissan South and ask our teammates to log in to your school’s portal (you will need to provide your login). From there, we can verify and print your grades!
Question: I totally forgot to bring in my report card and now the deadline has passed. Can you make an exception for me?
No. We are unable to make exceptions.
Question: My child brought in her grades but she won’t be able to make the car giveaway. Can I stand-in for her?
No. Students must be present to win.
We can’t wait to see you!
Don’t forget: the deadline for report cards is June 10th!

The New Year is almost here, and that means new Nissan models continue to roll out. The 2019 Nissan Altima, with its major design updates, was a big hit, and now two more newly designed models have been introduced: the 2019 Nissan Maxima and the 2019 Nissan Murano.
A New Generation
This is the 3rd generation re-design of this popular crossover, which focuses on giving upper-class style an affordable price tag. This year’s exterior refresh includes an upgrade on the front v-motion grille, redesigned headlights and taillights, and new wheel designs. On the inside, the trim is updated with leather features on both the seats, armrests, and center console in the Platinum trim.
New Standard Features
The 2019 Nissan Murano also two new standard features on all trims:
Intelligent Driver Alertness
This smart technology actually learns the driver’s steering patterns and helps alert the driver when drowsy driving is detected.
Rear Door Alert (RDA)
This feature alerts the driver to check the rear seats when exiting the vehicle. By model year 2022, Nissan aims to have RDA on all four-door trucks, sedans, and SUVs.
Available Upgraded Safety Shield Technology
Also available is the full lineup of Nissan’s safety technology, known as Safety Shield 360. It includes 6 key advanced safety and driver-assist technologies designed to improve all around confidence for drivers. Safety Shield 360 includes:
Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection,
Blind Spot Warning,
Rear Cross Traffic Alert,
Lane Departure Warning,
High Beam Assist headlights, and
Rear Automatic Braking
This technology is standard for the 2019 Nissan Murano’s Platinum trim and as a part of the additional SL Technology Package.
The 2019 Nissan Murano is coming soon! Until then, check out our 2018 Nissan Murano lineup, which still features many great safety and convenience technology! We hope to see you soon at Newton Nissan South in Shelbyville, TN!
We’re excited about the all-new 2019 Nissan Altima! Are you?
We’re excited about the launch of this all-new design of the classic Nissan sedan we know and love! From exterior, to the engine, to the interior–this Altima has you covered. To get you excited too (it’ll be here soon!), we wanted to give you our top-five things you need to know about the 2019 Nissan Altima.
Here are the top things you need to know about it:
The new Altima has been truly overhauled for a sleeker, sportier feel. Check out this head-to-head comparison with the 2018 Altima:
This sixth-generation Altima now has a deeper Nissan-signature V-motion grille, a floating roof like others in the Nissan lineup, and sharper lines. In fact, the new Altima is 1.1 inches lower in height than previous models.
The 2019 Nissan Altima is leading the way in its class with the addition of the available ProPilot Assist. This is available on the SV, SL, and Platinum trim levels. ProPilot Assist was included on 2018 models like the Rogue; read more about that feature here. Also available on these trims is the new Rear Automatic Braking (RAB). RAB helps the driver detect stationary objects when backing up, and, if necessary, will apply the break to avoid a collision.
Three features are standard on all trims:
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (I-FCW), and
Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA)
All of these combine to create a 360 safety shield around the 2019 Nissan Altima drivers and passengers, as Nissan continues to forge forward in vehicle safety technology.
Here are the top 10 things you need to know about the 2019 Nissan Altima:
Variable Compression Turbo Engine – the world’s first! This combines power & fuel efficiency (combined MPG at 29!)
It’s the 6th generation! The Altima is one of Nissan’s best selling vehicles, and it has been for 25 years.
Brand-new design – it’s lower, wider, and sleeker than ever before.
The backseat room is great for your passengers with long legs!
All-new 8-in touch screen with Apple Car & Android Auto is now standard.
The price is right – still very affordable with better features
New technology: Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (I-FCW), and Intelligent Driver Alertness (I-DA)
Available SR Sport Package
Electronic power steering to help drivers stay in their lane
Intelligent All-Wheel Drive is now available!
These are adapted from the following video. Watch it for a fun review from one of the first people to test drive the Altima!

The Nissan Altima is 25 years old! The photo above shows the very first generation next to the latest generation, which debuts very soon: the 2019 Altima. This first generation was produced from 1993-1997. It replaced the Nissan Stanza in the US, which was known as the Bluebird in Japan.
The second generation (above) was manufactured between 1998-2001. This redesign offered a sportier apperance, increased horsepower, and 15-inch tires.
The third generation of the Nissan Altima was made between 2002-2006. This all-new design was widely popular, and receives credit for reviving the Nissan brand in the US. Again, the horsepower increased with an award-winning engine upgrade.
The fourth generation was produced from 2007 to 2012. This was the first to use the Xtronic transmission system, which is now standard on several other Nissan models.
The fifth generation, made from 2013-2018, became the one of the most innovative & premium Altima in its history. Major developments included advanced technology features. It’s in this span of time that this Altima remained the best selling nameplate for Nissan up until the redesigned Nissan Rogue crossover passed it in 2017.
Finally comes the sixth & most current generation of the Nissan Altima (below). With updated styling, the best technology available, and two all-new engine upgrades, this generation is aimed at re-energizing the sedan segment of the market!
What do you think of the new 2019 Nissan Altima?
Let us know & be on the lookout for it, beginning in the Fall of this year!
The Rogue is Nissan’s best selling vehicle by far, but why is it so popular? Is it the safety features? The signature exterior style? The Nissan dependability? It’s all of this and more! Read on to see why the 2018 Nissan Rogue continues to be a favorite among car shoppers!
The Future: Hands-Free Driving?
The most noteworthy addition to the 2018 Nissan Rogue is the introduction of the available ProPilot Assist, which might be the closest thing that we can get to hands-free driving at the moment! Here’s how it works:
Turn on the system by pressing the blue ProPilot Assist button, on the right side of your steering wheel.
Set your Intelligent Cruise Control at your desired speed, like you normally would set it.
The system will recognize the lane markers and steering assist will engage your steering wheel. These two icons will turn green on the driver’s display.
It will remain active as long as the front camera can see both right and left side lane markers, and will disengage in heavy traffic.
In addition, it will be quickly overridden by your cues as the driver, such as when you engage your turn signal or turn the wheel. Though this does not give you permission to drive hands-free, it’s still a pretty cool feature! Remain alert & aware, keep your hands on the wheel, and let ProPilot Assist take care of the rest!
Standard Utility Features
All the 2018 Nissan Rogue models now come with standard Nissan Connect & Apple/Android Car Play, making it easier to stay both connected and focused as a driver. Other available and affordable utility features include: Motion Activated Liftgate, Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking. Nissan continues to increase confidence, ease, and dependability!
Easily our favorite day of the year, we here at Newton Nissan South love getting to see our community turn out for Trunk or Treat. It’s also an important day for us, because it is a day that we don’t promote ourselves. Instead, we promote the community we are in. This year, the Cascade High School Band Boosters helped us decorate 40 trunks that we filled with enough candy for all the afternoon’s visitors! In return, we were able to donate some funds to help them continue to grow their program.
Battling the fierce wind, the booster cars showed up early and began setting up: decorating their cars, trucks, and SUVs into spooky entrances, fun characters, science labs, and music-filled pop culture references, such as Harry Potter and Star Wars. We had a friendly competition over whose trunk was the best, and we brought in fun bouncy houses and euro bungees for the kids to enjoy for a few hours! The wind would not keep us down!
So, why do we do this?
Because we here believe that our customers are more important than our cars; our community is more valuable than our bottom line. And to show this, we simply want to be a part of each others’ lives. And Trunk or Treat is one of those days that allows us to host a fun event, get to know our community, and give back.
Thank you for being a part of our community!
We hope to see you next year at Trunk or Treat 2018!
Last month, we took a closer look at the 2017 Altima, and saw how it stacked up against a strong competitor: the 2017 Toyota Camry. The upgrades made on the 2017 model proved that upgrades are becoming standard for Nissan’s already impressive and durable lineup. With the 2018 Nissan Altima, the bar for what is becoming standard just got set higher.
A New Standard
With the 2018 model year, Nissan set a new standard with many of its models, including the Rogue, Murano, and Altima. On a million of these models, the revolutionary Automatic Emergency Breaking (AEB) technology was placed as a standard feature–not for special editions only, but on base models, with no excess charges. This is double the amount of Nissan vehicles with AEB from 2017.
What is AEB?
AEB is a new technology that helps a driver stay alert to possible collisions with vehicles ahead. It offers both visual and auditory alerts as it tracks the space in between your car and the car ahead. If the driver fails to respond to these warnings–i.e., not slowing down–the car will automatically apply the breaks. This will either help you to avoid rear-ending someone altogether, or it will at the very least reduce the speed at which the collision occurs.
An Intelligent Interior
On the inside, the 2018 Nissan Altima complements its exterior. It features a standard Advanced Drive Assist display and a 5-inch color audio display. Its primary goal is to help the driver stay focused on the road while staying informed of incoming messages. The driver can respond with preset or custom messages through the smartphone connection via the USB port below the controls.
The 2018 Nissan Altima features new standards, alongside optional upgrades, and is available at Newton Nissan South! Come see us today to check it out!
Here at Newton Nissan, we pride ourselves on our involvement in the community. It is very important to us to know our customers and their families as more than numbers or sales, but as neighbors, friends, and family. For this reason, we have many different events to do this, including Spirit Nights and our car giveaway for high school students. But by far, the most fun event we love to host for the community is our annual Trunk or Treat!
Each year, we shut down our dealership and host thousands from our community for fun, games, food, and, of course, candy! It is always a fun time for kids and adults alike to enjoy a few hours celebrating together. Cars, as well as children & adults, are dressed up in fun costumes, and a good time is always had by all.
Come to our Trunk or Treat here at Newton Nissan!
Where: 2801 Highway 231 N Shelbyville, TN
When: 3-5 PM
Details: Everything is free! Come dressed and ready to have fun! Rain or shine!
This year, we hope we can join us at this family-friendly event for all ages! We’ll serve pizza, have a euro bungees, and more!
Two great cars. Two reputable manufacturers. How do you decide?
Here at Newton Nissan, we don’t want you to only take our word for it when it comes to buying a car. We want you to make an informed decision. So we’ve put two of the top sedans available on the market head-to-head: Nissan’s 2017 Altima Sedan vs Toyota’s 2017 Camry to help you decide.
2017 Toyota Camry
Toyota’s Camry this year offers gasoline-powered models in a 4-cylinder or V6 engine, as well as a hybrid model. The gasoline models feature a 6-speed automatic transmission, but the hybrid model offers Toyota’s Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
On the interior, the XLE and XSE models newly feature the Entune™ Audio Plus system with navigation. Other select models are equipped with a Qi Wireless Smartphone Charging system for certain phones.
2017 Nissan Altima Sedan
Nissan’s version of Toyota’s CVT, Xtronic CVT® comes standard on the 2017 Altima Sedan, giving every model smooth acceleration and quiet performance. It also has a better fuel efficiency than the Camry, with a larger fuel tank and an average of 30 mpg with a 4-cylinder engine; Camry’s estimates for the Camry’s 4-cylinder is 27 mpg. Also standard on the 2017 Altima is Push Button Ignition.
In the driver’s seat, the Altima has the AdvancedDrive-Assist® Display, providing easy recognition of vehicle information and warnings. For added comfort, a heating steering wheel is available on select models. This feature is not offered on any of the Camry models.
A Standard Upgrade
The 2017 Nissan Altima considers standard what competitors count as luxury upgrades. It is the clear choice for someone looking at the 2017 Nissan Altima versus 2017 Toyota Camry this year, because of these standard luxuries that Nissan offers on the Altima.
