Ashley, a 10th grader from Community High School in Shelbyville, won a brand new car this weekend because of her good grades. Ashley was so shocked, saying, “I just can’t believe it…I mean, ME?!” She will be getting her permit soon, and is excited to begin driving her new car! Her little sister and mom were also surprised and thankful for this gift to their family. The annual Newton Nissan Car Giveaway event is open to all students enrolled in a Tennessee high school. Since the program started in 2009, Newton Nissan has given away ten cars to students in the Nashville area.
About the Grand Prize
The grand prize was a 2018 Nissan Versa, valued at $15,330. “Newton Nissan pays for both the car and sales taxes, so Ashley doesn’t have to pay anything for her new car,” says Mike Abbondanza, Newton Nissan’s Vice President. Students enter the contest by bringing in their report card from the most recent school year. Students increase their chances of winning by making good grades, since they receive one entry per “A” on their report card.
Other Fun Happenings This Year
But there were more prizes to be had! We had several trivia rounds for other students to win smaller prizes like gift cards and very large candy bars!
Add that to free food and a drawing for a free oil change for the parents — it was a fun night for all! We love celebrating all these students, who have worked so hard all year long, and we especially love giving back to our community in this way. If you weren’t able to join us this year, we hope that you will next year for the Newton Nissan Car Giveaway!
Congratulations again to Ashley!

Recently rated by Southest Tourism as a Top 20 event for 2018! Celebrating two southern favorites, R.C. Colas and Moon Pies, this festival in Bell Buckle draws visitors from around the country each year. There’s a 10k Race, parade, music and food. Also featuring the cutting of the world’s largest Moon Pie!
Local Grammy-nominated artist Jaci Velasquez recently took the 2018 Nissan Rogue for a month-long test drive, and she rated it in 2nd place among her top three favorite vehicles! From its advanced technology to its sleek, black exterior and leather interior, Jaci loved this vehicle. We think you will too!
Jaci dubbed this Rogue more than just a car — “It’s a superhero!” Her primary reason for calling it a superhero is the technology. This begins with the key fob, by which you can not only unlock and lock your car, but you can also enter your car without pressing the button at all. As long as the key fob is on your person, you and your passenger can get in the car by pressing the button on the door handle. In addition, with the key fob, you can remotely start up your car! “Who needs keys? You’ve got superheroes like Nissan!”
All the technology you want
On the inside, the Rogue doesn’t miss a beat in continuing to impress with the best lineup of technology. First, the touch screen houses all you need to stay connect: Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Navigation, and the Rear-View camera. In addition to the rear-view, though, is the front view camera. This shows you the sides and front of your vehicle, and warns you of potential objects. Behind the wheel, you can also choose what you want to see, which is also where you are warned when you drift lanes. The steering wheel itself will shake to alert you to stay in your lane alongside a couple of beeps.
“This car practically drives itself!”
“But the best part of the 2018 Nissan Rogue is the ProPilot Assist,” Jaci says. This driver assist technology may not let you fall asleep with your passengers on long car rides (yet), but what it can do are these key things:
Keep your speed the same, even in slowing and speeding traffic
Maintain a set distance between your car and the vehicle ahead
Keep you in your lane (note: you must keep your hands on the wheel)
You simply press the blue button (pictured) on the steering wheel, set your speed, and you’re all set! You will see if there’s a car in front, what your actual speed is, and if you are in your lane. Again, you still have to stay focused on the road ahead, but with your feet and hands fairly relaxed as you go!
The 2018 Nissan Frontier may look like a small truck, but it’s got big capability for small and large tasks alike. Whether you are looking for a truck “just because,” or you need a workhorse to tackle those projects you’ve been putting off, the Frontier is the vehicle for you! Read on to find out why.
Nissan is committed to improving their vehicles year after year. Enhancements for the 2018 Nissan Frontier include:
the addition of standard RearView Monitor,
standard air conditioning,
Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System,
5.0-inch color display audio,
and Siri® Eyes Free.
Just look at that beautiful interior! But, as you can see, it’s not just there for looks — it has all the capability that you need to stay connected and up-to-date. In addition, later in the year, there will be a Midnight Edition of the 2018 Nissan Frontier for the very first time! This available package includes a black grille, 18-inch gloss black aluminum-alloy wheels, semi-gloss black step rails, body-color front and rear bumpers, black outside rearview mirrors and door handles and black badging. These Midnight Edition vehicles are always very popular, and it is exciting to see the Frontier receive this special upgrade.
Options, options, options!
There are many options to choose from when looking at the 2018 Nissan Frontier. Choose between a 4.0-liter DOHC V6 rated at 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque or a 152-horsepower 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder (King Cab only); manual or automatic transmission; regular/crew cab or long bed, and more! Depending on what you need for towing or hauling or just an all-around truck, you can find the perfect Frontier to match your needs, including 8 different color options!
When buying a truck, dependability is at the top of the list for anyone in the market. And both the 2018 Nissan Titan and the 2018 Ford F-150 have that quality. The Ford F-150 is the best selling truck in America, and the 2017 Titan model was named TruckTrend’s “Pickup Truck of the Year.” So between these two great models, how do you decide?
2018 Nissan Titan
The 2018 Nissan Titan offers three standard features that used to be available options, including:
Standard column shifter,
tow/haul mode with Downhill Speed Control,
Combine these with a wide array of available upgrade features, compared to the F-150:
Available hill descent control (King and Crew Cab only),
120-volt power outlet in cargo bed,
front and rear sonar system,
and Intelligent Around View® Monitor (King and Crew Cab only).
These are just the beginning of the list of features and perks offered with the 2018 Nissan Titan.
2018 Ford F-150
America’s best-selling truck has some great additions to this year’s model. Update exterior styling, new interior color options, and an available audio system give fresh style to this trustworthy truck. In addition, it has made the rear-view camera a standard feature on all Ford models. Available options include:
4G LTE modem for a WiFi hot spot,
Adaptive Cruise Control with stop-and-go functionality,
and Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection.
Seems like a neck-and-neck race for these two trucks,
Nissan’s striking lineup of crossovers continues with the 2018 Nissan Murano. In 2017, the Murano was named “2017 Best 2-Row SUV for the Money.” It was also named by J.D. Power as the top vehicle in the mid-size SUV category. But with Nissan, awards are not the goal, or a stoplight for improvement; instead, constant innovation is the goal.
Technology to Stay Connected
The 2018 Nissan Murano features technological improvements to help keep drivers connected, without being distracted. This includes AppleCarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect with Navigation, and SiriusXM (with subscription). This is housed in a 8-inch color display with touch screen control.
On the inside, different trim levels offer different levels of luxury. Choose between a power liftgate (SL & Platinum), a Dual Panel moonroof (Platinum), heated rear seats and steering wheel (SL), and more! In addition, the SL Midnight Edition package, a popular package from 2017, carries over in many models and offers new content for the 2018 Nissan Murano.
Features to Keep You Safe
Finally, the best enhancements are always the ones that keep you and your passengers safe, and the Murano lacks none of them. Standard on all grades is Automatic Emergency Braking and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning. Added to the SV grade are Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent Cruise control. In the SV Premier package, added to the rear-camera is the Intelligent Around View, which gives you full scope of what is behind, in front, and all around your vehicle as you reverse (see below).
The Rogue is Nissan’s best selling vehicle by far, but why is it so popular? Is it the safety features? The signature exterior style? The Nissan dependability? It’s all of this and more! Read on to see why the 2018 Nissan Rogue continues to be a favorite among car shoppers!
The Future: Hands-Free Driving?
The most noteworthy addition to the 2018 Nissan Rogue is the introduction of the available ProPilot Assist, which might be the closest thing that we can get to hands-free driving at the moment! Here’s how it works:
Turn on the system by pressing the blue ProPilot Assist button, on the right side of your steering wheel.
Set your Intelligent Cruise Control at your desired speed, like you normally would set it.
The system will recognize the lane markers and steering assist will engage your steering wheel. These two icons will turn green on the driver’s display.
It will remain active as long as the front camera can see both right and left side lane markers, and will disengage in heavy traffic.
In addition, it will be quickly overridden by your cues as the driver, such as when you engage your turn signal or turn the wheel. Though this does not give you permission to drive hands-free, it’s still a pretty cool feature! Remain alert & aware, keep your hands on the wheel, and let ProPilot Assist take care of the rest!
Standard Utility Features
All the 2018 Nissan Rogue models now come with standard Nissan Connect & Apple/Android Car Play, making it easier to stay both connected and focused as a driver. Other available and affordable utility features include: Motion Activated Liftgate, Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking. Nissan continues to increase confidence, ease, and dependability!
When it comes to buying a new car, no one wants to be uninformed about what’s out there. And here at Newton Nissan, we do not want to ever pressure you into making a decision. So here are two great options out there for your next sedan. Keep reading to understand the key similarities and differences between them, so that you can make a well-informed decision!
2018 Nissan Altima
This new model year for the Nissan Altima brings with it many new standard features, including:
Standard hands-free text messaging assistant,
Standard Advanced Drive-Assist® Display,
and Standard Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).
These features combine to keep the driver alert and aware at all times, even when needing to stay connected on-the-go. In addition, also available is the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, which warns the driver to a potential rear-end accident. It monitors the vehicle directly two cars ahead, and alerts the driver with both visual and audio warnings. Though the Malibu also offers a similar system, it can only monitor the car directly in front.
2018 Chevy Malibu
The Malibu for this year is not lacking in features itself, either. One noticeable difference in the increase in the size of the fuel tank–up from 13.0 gallons to 15.8 gallons on models with the 1.5 liter engine. The Altima, however, does make even that increase seem small,by offering a 18.0 gallon tank! An additional standard feature now on all Malibu models is the rear-view camera, which makes backing up a breeze. Also available are many different trim levels, which vary in both packages and pricing.
Standards Sweeten the Deal
When you’re looking for a car, of course you want good features. Nissan makes that easy by making so many great features standard–at no extra cost to you–ranging from connectivity to safety. But you also want an affordable price. Nissan again offers a lower starting price than the Chevy. The bottom line is that you can’t go wrong either way. Check the choices out for yourself, and we hope to see you soon!
